The 89 Percent Project is a year-long global journalistic initiative by CCNow exploring a pivotal but little-known fact about climate change: The overwhelming majority of the world’s people want their governments to take stronger action. The project launches on April 21, coinciding with Earth Day, with a week of CCNow Joint Coverage Week.
The idea of The 89 Percent Project arose from a slew of recent scientific studies finding that the overwhelming majority of the world’s people — between 80 and 89% — want stronger government action on climate. This global climate majority, however, does not realize it is the majority; most people think their fellow citizens don’t agree.
Join CCNow co-founders Mark Hertsgaard and Kyle Pope and fellow journalists from core project partners to learn how you and your newsroom can get involved, to hear about the science behind the 89% number, brainstorm story ideas, explore newsroom collaborations, and more.
