Covering Climate Now is expanding its newsroom training initiatives to enhance climate coverage in local media across Nigeria. This program builds on the success of The Climate Station and The Climate Newsroom training programs in the US and Canada and is designed to help you and your outlet cover climate stories more effectively.
The training program spans three one-hour Zoom sessions over three weeks, followed by six months of ongoing support and feedback. It’s led by our global team, which collaborates with a network of media organizations across the world.
Our three tailored sessions include:
- Local Climate Stories That Matter: Explore climate basics and the importance of climate change coverage for every community, including real solutions. Through practical examples from various media, you’ll learn how to craft stories that resonate with your audience.
- Making the Climate Connection: Learn how to clearly explain the link between climate change and extreme weather events. You’ll also leave the course having learned the basics of attribution science, so you can help audiences understand whether an extreme weather event is linked to climate change.
- Workshop: Climate Stories for Every Beat and Platform: Understand how climate change impacts daily life, from extreme weather to health, jobs, economy, and agriculture. By examining diverse media examples in TV, print, and social media, you’ll uncover practical tips to integrate these angles into your stories. The workshop also includes concrete tools, graphics, and resources to help you find experts and strengthen your coverage.
